슬립낫의 2집 정규 앨범. 멤버들의 출신지던 아이오와주에서 앨범명을 따왔다.
2. 상세
1999년 데뷔 앨범인 Slipknot의 성공에 차기 앨범에 대한 사람들의 기대가 커져만 갔고, 밴드에 대한 압박 또한 커졌다. 이 시기에 멤버들 서로의 관계는 악화되었고, 멤버들은 이 당시가 가장 어두운 시기였다고도 언급했다.디제잉과 샘플링 사운드가 조화를 이루던 뉴 메탈에 충실하던 사운드의 전작과는 달리 이 앨범은 래핑과 디제잉 등의 비중을 크게 낮추고 그로울링과[1] 더불어 묵직하게 드롭 튜닝 한 기타 리프, 빠르고 격렬한 드러밍 등 소위 헤비한 사운드에 치중한 모습을 보인다. 때문에 항간에서 역대 슬립낫 디스코그래피 중 가장 헤비하다고 말하는 앨범이기도 하다. 데스 메탈과 그루브 메탈 향취가 강하다는 평을 받는 등 보다 메탈 본위적 접근법이 이 작품의 묘미.
한결같이 헤비한 분위기로 일관하기에 호불호가 갈리는 작품이기도 하지만, 평단에선 나름 푸짐한 점수를 그럭저럭 받는 뉴메탈의 고전 걸작선으로 인정하는 분위기다. 롤링 스톤이나 NME 등 평단에선 8/10점 가량의 점수와 함께 뉴 메탈씬 전문 잡지 등지에서도 꾸준히 명반선으로 등재되고 있다.
부클릿이 기름종이 형식인데, 쫙 펼치면 9명 멤버의 모습을 포스터처럼 감상할 수 있다.
3. 제작 배경
드러머 조이 조디슨과 베이시스트 폴 그레이는 데뷔 이후의 광범위한 투어 이후 2000년 10월부터 새로운 음악 작업을 시작했고, 앨범 대부분의 수록곡들을 작곡했다. 이 기간 동안 다른 멤버들은 휴식을 취하고 있었다. 그러다 2001년 1월 17일, 캘리포니아주 로스앤젤레스의 사운드 시티 스튜디오와 사운드 이미지 스튜디오에서 1집 작업을 함께 했던 프로듀서 로스 로빈슨과 함께 새로운 곡들을 녹음하기 시작했다.하지만 녹음 기간은 밴드 내에서 가장 어두운 시기였는데, 작곡 과정에서의 과로 문제, 코리 테일러의 알코올 중독, 다른 멤버들의 마약 중독, 매니지먼트 문제 등을 포함한 다양한 외적 요소들이 밴드 내 관계에 영향을 미쳤기 때문이다.
이러한 어두운 분위기 속에서 2001년 3월 16일에 모든 녹음이 완료되어 2001년 8월 28일부터 정규 2집이 발매되기 시작했다.

앨범의 인트로 트랙으로, 제목인 515는 슬립낫 결성지인 아이오와주의 지역번호이다.
비명을 지르는 음성은 시드 윌슨이 담당했는데, 앨범 작업 중 시드는 할아버지가 위독하다는 소식을 듣고 병문안을 가던 중이었다. 그러나 할아버지는 시드가 도착하기 전에 세상을 떠났고, 할아버지의 임종을 지키지 못한 시드는 스튜디오로 돌아와 극도의 감정적 고통 속에서 반복적으로 "죽음(Death)"이라는 단어를 외쳤다고 한다. 그 녹음본을 바탕으로 곡이 제작되었다고 한다.

앨범에서 두 번째로 싱글 컷된 곡으로, 2002년 영화 레지던트 이블의 사운드트랙으로도 사용되었다.
시드 윌슨이 먼저 제작한 비트 위에 기타 리프와 코러스를 얹어 곡이 작곡되었다고 한다.
뮤직 비디오는 레지던트 이블 영화 클립과 2002년 2월 16일 런던 아레나에서 열린 공연 영상을 편집하여 제작되었다.

코리 테일러가 17살 쯤 마지막으로 했던 자살 시도와 자살 시도 이후 인생이 무엇인지 깨달은 첫 날에 대해 영감을 받아 곡을 작사했다고 한다. 자살 시도의 이유는 실연이였으며, 팔에 31번의 자해를 하고 약 한병을 먹고 쓰러져 있던 코리를 친구가 발견하여 병원으로 데려갔다고 한다.

숀 크레이언이 고등학교 시절 썼던 시로 작사를 했는데, 코리 테일러는 숀이 쓴 가사를 그대로 부르고 싶어했기 때문에 작사를 새로 하지 않고 데모곡 가사 그대로 불렀다고 한다.

1997년경 녹음했던 미발매곡인 〈Lust Disease〉를 리메이크한 곡으로, 헤비한 수록곡들 사이에서 그나마 멜로디컬하며 대중적인 곡이기도 하다.[3] 2001년 10월 29일에 첫 번째 싱글로도 발매되었다.
코리 테일러는 고향인 아이오와주 디모인의 다리 밑에서 노숙 생활을 하던 시절에 영감을 받아 작사했다고 한다.
뮤직 비디오는 로스앤젤레스에서 촬영되었으며, 정육점에서 일하는 어린 소년과 숲에서 연주를 하고 있는 멤버들이 등장한다. 감독판도 있는데, 원본에선 소년이 지하실로 들어가는 장면에서 끝나지만 감독판에선 소년이 지하실로 들어간 후 얼굴에 피를 묻히는 장면 등이 추가되었다.
