1. 개요

칼리 레이 젭슨이 2016년 8월 26일 발매한 EP이다.

칼리는 E•MO•TION을 위해 무려 250여 곡을 만들었다고 한다. # 때문에 앨범에 수록되지 못하고 남겨진(leftover) 노래가 상당히 많았다.[2]

E•MO•TION SIDE B는 이렇게 남겨진 곡 중 8곡을 EP로 모아놓은 앨범으로, 팬들의 요청에 부응하듯 E•MO•TION이 발매된 지 1년이 지난 2016년 8월에 발매되었다.

웬일인지 leftover 중 팬들에게 잘 알려진 노래였던 'Bullseye'는 수록되어 있지 않다. 아마 EP의 통일성을 고려해 빠진 듯하다.

디스코, 뉴웨이브 등 1970년대 후반에서 80년대 사이에 유행하던 사운드를 적극적으로 사용한 것이 눈에 띈다. 본작이라 할 수 있는 E•MO•TION보다 더 본격적.

본작이라 할 수 있는 E•MO•TION처럼 이 앨범 역시 좋은 평가를 받는다. 메타크리틱 점수는 오히려 E•MO•TION보다 높다.[3]

EP임에도 불구하고 여러 매체의 Album of the Year에서 상위권에 포함되었다. 아이돌레이터 The 10 Best EPs & Mixtapes of 2016 1위를 비롯해, 롤링 스톤 '20 Best Pop Albums of 2016' 6위 등이다.

2017년 첫 싱글으로 애니메이션 발레리나의 엔딩곡이다. 칼리 레이 젭슨 유튜브 채널에는 전날인 5월 25일 업로드 됐다.

해당 곡은 평론가들에게 매우 좋은 평가를 받았다. 덕분에 2017년 연말결산 목록에 상당히 많이 보인다. Spin의 50 Best Songs of 2017 1위, Pop Justice의 The Top 45 Singles of 2017 2위를 비롯해, 피치포크, 빌보드, 롤링 스톤 등 많은 잡지의 올해의 곡 목록에 포함되었다.
