1. 개요

라나 델 레이의 정규 8집.[1]

7집 " Chemtrails Over The Country Club" 이후로 7개월 만인 10월 22일에 발매되었으며 재즈, 컨트리 뮤직 장르와 융합한 포크송 사운드와 오래간만에 짧은 인터루드지만 트립 합 장르의 곡도 수록되었다.

2. 발매 과정

2020년 11월 17일, 두 개의 앨범 작업을 하고 있다는 트윗을 올렸다.

2021년 3월 15일, 6집 발매 4일 전 인터뷰를 통해 벌서 다음 앨범을 제작 중이라고 언급했다.

Chemtrails Over The Country Club이 공개된 다음날 바로 2021년 6월 1일 새 앨범 'Rock Candy Sweet'를 공개할 것이라고 발표했다.

2021년 4월 10일, 인스타를 통해 8집 정규 앨범을 'Blue Banisters'로 짓겠다 발표하고 같은 날 수록곡 뮤직비디오 클립을 공개했다.

2021년 5월 12일, 인터뷰를 통해 'Mike Dean'이 새 앨범에 참여한다고 밝혔다.

2021년 5월 21일, 유튜브 계정에 3곡의 앨범 수록곡 Text Book, Blue Banisters, Wildflower Wildfire의 오디오 영상이 공개되었다.

2021년 7월 4일, 유출된 곡이었던 'Cherry Blossom', 'Thunder'가 이번 앨범에 수록될 것이라는 게시물에 라나가 좋아요를 눌렀다.

2021년 9월 9일, 수록곡 'Arcadia'의 뮤직비디오가 공개되었다.

2021년 10월 22일, 앨범이 발매되었다. 발매 후 월드 와이드 아이튠즈 차트에서 1위를 기록하였다.

메타크리틱 74점으로 데뷔해서[2] 21개의 평가를 모은 점수로 현재 80점이며 Norman Fucking Rockwell!, Chemtrails Over The Country Club 다음으로 높은 평가를 받고 있다. 특히 유저 스코어가 9.6점을 기록하며 대중들 사이에서 엄청나게 호평받고 있다.

피치포크에서 이번엔 7.7점이라는 점수를 책정하였으며[3] 가장 낮을 점수를 매긴 가디언지에서는 전작과 동일하게 60점을 주며 구구절절 시시하다는 평을 내놓았다. 다만 대체적으로는 대부분 호평을 하고 있다.

유저평은 역대급으로 좋은 상황이다. 3천 명 가까운 유저들의 평균 점수가 9.7을 기록하고 있으며 이는 음악적으로 대호평을 받은 NFR!!! (9.2)보다도 높다. NFR 이후의 라나의 음악 스타일을 좋아하는 사람들에게는 더더욱 반박의 여지 없는 수작이라는 평이 대부분.

발매 후 공개된 수록곡 중에서는 Black Bathing Suit, Dealer가 상당한 호평을 받았다. Black Bathing Suit는 라나의 솔직한 심경을 담은 직설적인 가사와 특이한 곡 구성으로 상당한 호평을 받았고, Dealer는 기존 라나에게서 볼 수 없는 보컬 스타일로 호평받았다. If You Lie Down With Me, Thunder와 같은 트랙들도 반응이 좋은 편. 다만 앨범의 후반부는 조금 처진다는 의견도 있다.

빌보드 200에 초동 33,000장을 기록하며 8위로 데뷔했다. 이는 라나의 커리어 중 제일 낮은 순위로 데뷔한 앨범이며. 싱글 차트는 내팽개쳐도 앨범 차트에선 매번 10만 장에 가까운 초동으로 3위권 내에 앨범을 데뷔시켜왔는데에 비해 상당히 떨어지는 모습을 보였다 하지만 그럴 수밖에 없는 게 7집까지만 해도 앨범 자체를 대표하고 뮤비 또한 잘 만든 트랙들이 하나씩은 있었고[4] 이를 통해 대중들에게 미약하게나마 어필할 수 있었지만, 이번 앨범은 공개 전부터 3곡을 동시 공개했고 발매 직전 싱글 또 하나 발매, 앨범 발매 후로는 이미 공개한 싱글의 뮤비를 뒤늦게 발매하는 등 늘 그렇듯 프로모 계획은 국 끓여 먹은 상태로 발매되었다. 심지어 2천만 명이 넘는 인스타 계정 또한 여러 가지 사정으로 닫아 버려서 가뜩이나 안 하는 홍보를 원천봉쇄 시켜버렸다.
