1. 개요

국제질병분류(International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, ICD)는 인간의 모든 질병 및 사망에 대한 표준 분류법이다.

3. 역사

1949년에 출판된 ICD-6을 시작으로 ICD-7, ICD-8a, ICD-9가 나왔으며, 1990년 제43회 세계보건총회에서 채택된 ICD-10이 최신판이다. 현재 ICD-11 베타 드래프트가 나온 상태이다.

국제통계기구(International Statistical Institute, ISI)가 출판하던 책인 국제사인분류[2]였다. 6판부터 세계보건기구가 참여하여 집필했으며, 이후 국제질병분류가 되어 현재와 같은 형태를 갖추게 되었다.

참고로 정신질환 진단 및 통계 편람인 DSM(Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders)과는 전혀 다르다. 애당초 DSM을 집필하는 곳은 미국 정신의학회(American Psychiatric Association)이며, ICD는 세계보건기구인 WHO가 담당하여 집필한다.

4. ICD-11

2018년 6월 18일에 발표된 ICD-11은 2019년 72번째 세계보건총회에서 승인되었고, 2022년 1월 1일부터 효력을 가지고 있다.

5. 한국표준질병사인분류

한국표준질병사인분류(Korean Standard Classification of Diseases, KCD)는 대한민국에서 의무기록자료 및 사망원인통계조사 등 질병이환 및 사망자료를 그 성질의 유사성에 따라 체계적으로 유형화한 것이다.

1938년 인구동태조사에서 ICD를 처음 사용하기 시작하였고, 통계청은 통계법(제22조 표준분류 제1항)에 따라 한국표준질병‧사인분류(KCD, 1952년 이후)를 작성‧고시하고 있으며, 23개 정부부처의 72개 법령에서 준용(2021년 3월 기준)하고 있다.

KCD는 광복날인 1945년 8월 15일까지 ISI가 출판한 국제사인분류를 번역해서 썼으며, 1949년에 출판된 ICD-6 번역에 착수했으나 6.25 전쟁으로 소실되었다. 이후 1952년 도쿄에서 열린 서태평양기구 보건 및 인구동태통계 회의에서 WHO의 권고안을 입수했고, 한국 실정을 추가해서 제정했다.

[1] 후생노동성의 공식 일본어 번역명이다. 약칭은 한국과 동일한 国際疾病分類(국제질병분류) [2] 프랑스의 통계학자 자크 베르티용(Jacques Bertillon)의 사인분류표가 전신이었다.
